The outcome of the hospital, in terms of health and efficiency, is fundamentally related to the capacity and quality of its management, much more than to public and private ownership.
In Europe, the different health systems have evolved the governance of the public system hospitals, resulting in a clear model of hospital with its own legal personality (preferably public, but also private non-profit), with management autonomy and professionalization of the management teams. However, in Spain the predominant model is still far away, and it is an anomaly within the European healthcare panorama.
